The story behind our afternoon tea

Our Afternoon Tea

The story behind our little bit of decandence in a lovely little Hampshire village... What inspired The Bumblebee Cafe afternoon tea.

A decadent afternoon tea lovingly made with memories...

As a very small child, my granny, (pictured here), would invite us up to her house on a Sunday for afternoon tea.

Granny came from a generation where mugs were frowned upon and you only drank from cups and saucers, preferably made from bone-china.

I was mesmerised by the beautiful bone-china and its delicate designs and patterns and and the beautiful intricate lace tablecloths that where only ever used "for best." As children, we were not allowed to sit at the "grown-ups table" but had our very own special table, minus the bone-china naturally!

I promised myself at an early age that one day, when I was a grown up, I would have a tea service just like Granny's, and so today, you sip your afternoon tea from Granny's Royal Albert moss rose tea service.

Granny was not a natural cook or baker and as my Auntie Gill said, "Your Granny did love a Kipling cake". There were always French Fancies, Battenburg and a fairy cakes with the deepest layer of rich chocolate fondant, which was so sweet you could feel your teeth fillings melt.

Instead of the Kipling cake, your tea will be full of freshly baked cakes, made with love, accompanied with dainty and tasty sandwiches.

I hope the afternoon tea is as special for you as my Granny's teas where for me when I was a child.
